On the connection between studying history and working in admission: Reading hundreds of pages of primary and secondary documents to interpret events of the past has given me the stamina to read hundreds of applications every year. And like those historical documents I read, the documents within each applicant’s file help me to understand a student’s past. In addition, I see a connection between my studies as a history major, my involvement in my college’s newspaper, and my career as an admission counselor. I am intrigued by people’s stories and want to understand their experiences.
Favorite spot on campus: The lake––I grew up spending time around the lake, whether I was feeding the ducks, enjoying a picnic with my grandmother, playing tag, or riding my bike around it. I enjoy coming to campus on the weekends and walking around it. On a pretty Saturday, you’ll find dozens of people at the lake. It’s like a park for people who live in the area.
Favorite thing to do in the city on the weekends: I like to try new restaurants. I also enjoy picking up a few items at the local grocery store or farmers market and trying out a new recipe in my kitchen.
The number one reason students should check out Richmond: Students at Richmond are challenged every time they walk into the classroom. But the challenge of Richmond is balanced by the support we offer our students. Our professors expect a lot of their students, but they want them to succeed. I believe a Richmond education provides students with the skills to do anything.
