On becoming an admission counselor: My passion for learning about how people think, what makes them tick, their passions and interests all intersect in my job as an admission counselor. I originally planned to take a year off in between undergraduate and graduate school, but I saw a job advertisement at Mary Washington and decided to apply. I was thrilled when they offered me my first “real” job. After spending a year at UMW, I decided that I’d found my calling. I looked for jobs in the Richmond area and was very excited about the possibility of working at UR. I was attracted to the gorgeous campus, solid academics, and the core mission of Richmond. I have enjoyed coming to work every day...not many people can say that!
Favorite spot on campus: The Garden of Five Lions—it’s such a great place to relax, soak up the sun, and listen to the sounds of campus.
Favorite restaurant off-campus: Kuba Kuba is a phenomenal Cuban restaurant downtown. It’s a little locally-owned restaurant that appeals to anyone looking for latin-flavors, a cool vibe, and excellent food.
The number one reason students should check out Richmond: I always tell students how much this University feels like a family. If you come to Richmond you will be a part of something wonderful—something much larger than just yourself. I know that the faculty, staff, and students all care about each other and are interested in ensuring that we, as a community, meet our goals.
