Hometown: East Orange, NJ

Education: Major in Sociology (concentration in Power, Diversity, and Inequality) and minor in Rhetoric & Communications from the University of Richmond

How what you studied connects with your career: In the midst of my coursework, I became extremely well-versed in the inequities that plague our society due to social constructs like race and gender. I’m a strong believer that education is the best tool we have to level the playing field of life. If everyone had access to a world-class education regardless of race, gender, religion, geographic location, or socioeconomic status we would all benefit greatly. So upon graduating from the University of Richmond, I went on to work for a charter school in Newark, NJ whose mission was not only to close the achievement gap between low-income students of color and their more affluent white counterparts but to reverse it.
