Internships
An internship is a bridge between the classroom and the workplace, a place for applying what you have learned in class—and for learning things no classroom will ever teach you. Internships are not just important to you as a student; they are also important to employers. Where they allow you to test out career options and build skills you'll need after graduation, they allow employers to evaluate your skill level in such areas as communication, organization and customer service. In fact, 88 percent of employers rank career-related internships as "important" or "very important."
Most Richmond students will have at least one internship; many will complete more than one. Internships are available in every major, can be paid or volunteer and may earn students academic credit. Literally thousands of internships are available through Richmond's various schools and departments and through the Career Development Center.
You can also participate in an internship through the National Internship Consortium, a group of 14 national universities that post their internship listings on a shared Web site. As a Richmond student, you'll have access to more than 13,000 listings in all career fields and many states and countries. You'll also have access to InternCenter, which provides an additional 12,000 internship listings. It is even possible to intern overseas.
