First-Year Applicants

The University of Richmond accepts both the Common Application and the Richmond Web Application. Candidates for admission can choose to submit either the paper version or electronic version of the Common Application and will need to complete the University of Richmond Common Application Supplement. Both application formats are given equal weight and preference in the admission process. Application deadline is January 15, 2008.

Common Application
Students may apply with either the paper or the electronic version of the Common Application. You will also need to complete the University of Richmond Common Application Supplement. The Supplement will contain a required admission essay.

Required Admission Essay
The University of Richmond Common Application Supplement contains a required essay with four options. Please choose one.

  1. Tell us about an experience in which you left your comfort zone. How did this experience change you?
  2. Is there anything-whether it be politics, science, languages and culture or anything at all–that you are particularly passionate about? What is it and how did you become inspired to pursue it? How have you been involved in following the interest? Do you have any idea where you'd like to take it in the future?
  3. What opportunities have you sought that went beyond what was offered to every student at your school or what circumstances have you overcome in order to achieve what you have? Of what are you most proud?
  4. Please react to the following quote from Christopher Morley (American author 1890-1957), "Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity."

 Richmond Web Application
Students may apply with the Richmond Web Application. The Richmond Web Application is an entirely online process which includes the required supplement materials.

To be considered for the Richmond Scholars Program, students need to submit application materials by December 15, 2007.

Application Fee
The Application Fee is $50 and may be paid either by credit card at the time an online application is submitted or by check with a paper application or following submission of an online application. If you believe you may qualify for an application fee waiver, please contact your high school guidance counselor for more information.

Mid-Year Grade Report
In order for your application to be considered, your first semester/trimester senior grades must be received by February 15, 2008. If you believe that these grades have not been sent to the Office of Admission, you may use this form to request them from your counselor. You will be notified of any missing credentials needed for file review after the February 15 date.
