International Applicants (First-Year and Transfer)
The University of Richmond has four classifications of international students:
- Students who do not hold U.S. citizenship and have been educated outside the U.S.
- Students who do not hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency but who are living, at the time of their application for admission, in the U.S.
- Students who hold both U.S. citizenship and that of another country, regardless of where they live
- Americans Living Abroad
International Applicants should apply for admission to Richmond with the Richmond Web Application or the Common Application and and the University of Richmond Common Application Supplement.
The Supplement contains a required admission essay. To be considered for the Richmond Scholars Program, students need to submit these materials by December 15.
Required Admission Essay
The Richmond Supplement to the Common Application contains a required essay with four options. Please choose one.
- Tell us about an experience in which you left your comfort zone. How did this experience change you?
- Is there anything–whether it be politics, science, languages and culture or anything at all–that you are particularly passionate about? What is it and how did you become inspired to pursue it? How have you been involved in following the interest? Do you have any idea where you'd like to take it in the future?
- What opportunities have you sought that went beyond what was offered to every student at your school or what circumstances have you overcome in order to achieve what you have? Of what are you most proud?
- Please react to the following quote from Christopher Morley (American author 1890-1957), "Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity."
Financial Aid
International applicants should also complete the required International Student Financial Aid Application and the International Financial Aid Certification found in the International Student Supplement, which will be mailed to the student.
Application Fee
The Application Fee is $50 and may be paid either by credit card at the time an online application is submitted or by check with a paper application or following submission of an online application. If you believe you may qualify for an application fee waiver, please contact your high school guidance counselor for more information.
Please refer to the International Student Supplement and the General University Information Page for additional helpful information for international applicants.
