Life at Richmond: Housing
Imagine being part of an intimate community that's part of a much larger community-that describes residence life at Richmond. No matter where you live on campus, you'll be a part of a supportive residential community. Our residence halls aim to provide a comfortable, clean and safe place to live, a solid foundation for academic involvement, a link to the University and world communities, and a setting for personal growth, relaxation and fun.
Our undergraduate students find campus life so convenient and enjoyable that about 92 percent of them choose to live on campus for all four years. Many of our halls are single-sex, providing a basis of support through their connection to Richmond College for men and Westhampton College for women. There are also co-ed options dedicated to living-learning communities for upper-class students. Some residence halls offer single, double and triple rooms with a community bathroom, while others provide suite-style rooms for students. Most of our seniors opt to live with friends in the University Forest Apartments (UFA).

Roomates
Students often inquire about the roommate selection process. All incoming students who plan to live on campus (and 99.9 percent of them do their first year) complete a thorough lifestyle questionnaire that includes questions about sleep and housekeeping habits, smoking habits, musical preferences, attitudes towards visitors, etc. Every attempt is made to match each new student with a roommate who shares similar habits. The transition to college is difficult enough under ideal circumstances, so we hope to ease the process a bit by assigning you a roommate with whom you can live peacefully and happily. But, if the going gets tough, your resident assistant can help.
Living & Learning at Richmond
The residential experience is about “living & learning” in each of our residence halls. But we also have specific programs either focused on a theme or a specific academic course for students who seek even more from living on campus. Richmond offers several programs specifically for first-year men and women interested in living with others who share their interests:
· Explore UR World is a themed community for first-year men in which international and domestic students live together and participate in a number of planned activities throughout the academic year.
· RC Extreme is a themed community for first-year men who are interested in extreme outdoor activities and physical and psychological development.
· Ready for Moore is a living-learning community connected to an academic course with the Jepson School of Leadership Studies for first-year women living in Moore Hall who are interested in leadership studies and academic life.
· Spinning Your Web is a living-learning community connected to an academic course with the Jepson School for Leadership Studies for first-year men who are interested in community service, leadership and life at Richmond.
· Sub-Free is a themed community for first-year women who want to live with others who maintain a lifestyle free from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
· Women & Science is a themed community for first-year women interested in the sciences (i.e., biology, chemistry, or physics).
