Transfer of Credits

Once a student decides he or she is serious about transferring, we suggest making a campus visit or at least a phone call to speak to an admission officer. Our staff will be happy to give a tentative assessment of how the coursework that has been completed may transfer to Richmond. Keep in mind that all decisions about transfer credit are ultimately made by the Registrar's Office and faculty, so these first reviews are tentative.

We are also willing to speak to students before registration for the next semester at their schools to help them choose courses that have a high likelihood of transferability and that will help complete the general education requirements so that progress towards the completion of the degree continues on schedule.

All students will receive a full evaluation of the transferability of credits along with the offer of admission. This evaluation will reflect only the work completed at the time of the evaluation. This way applicants can compare the various institutions to which they have been offered admission if this one factor will be crucial in the decision about which school to choose. A final evaluation that includes the most recent semester's work will be mailed by the Registrar's Office to all enrolling students prior to registration.

Students who are attending any of the campuses in the Virginia Community College System can request a guide which designates the courses in the VCCS which satisfy Richmond's various general education requirements.

Students in the Virginia Community College System may also evaluate credits that may transfer to the University of Richmond at the State Council of Higher Education Web site.
