The Richmond Experience: An Open House for Accepted Students
One of the highlights of your Richmond Experience will be "Snapshots of Richmond's Academics." This is a great chance to be a Spider-For-A-Day. Once you register and tell us your top three academic interests, we'll do our best to find the perfect stops for you! You'll experience the unique interactive academic environment that is a trademark of the Richmond education. All accepted students (and family members, too) will navigate the campus, move in and out of classrooms and labs, and take part in academic exchanges with faculty and current students.
Here is a sampling of the many interesting snapshots that faculty and students are anxious to share with you. Click here for a complete list of "Snapshots" available.
Field Biology: Modern Approaches to Ecological and Environmental Science
Through state-of-the-art facilities and equipment rarely seen at the undergraduate level, Richmond's science students conduct hands-on exploration. Weather permitting, join the professor and students outdoors to see and use common field equipment employed in aquatic settings. You'll explore the ecology and biology of Westhampton Lake. Field research is a key component to several of the research programs in the biology department.
Three Ways of Thinking about Justice
The Jepson School of Leadership Studies will encourage attendees to think about contemporary social problems in systemic terms. Thinking about social justice in three ways, normatively, cognitively, and ethnically, you'll tackle big questions. Should we regard justice as a personal virtue, an attribute of an entire society, or both? What does "justice" mean in the United States, and is it our responsibility to make "doing justice" a central part of our lives?
Marketing Outside the Classroom: Examples and Opportunities
The Robins School of Business is nationally ranked in the top 20 undergraduate business schools by BusinessWeek magazine. What makes this school so strong? How do business students take their knowledge outside the classroom? See faculty-student scholarship and learn about marketing internship opportunities that render Richmond business students valuable commodities in the job market. The department chair and students conducting research in marketing will talk about different student experiences and address different tracks for the marketing concentration. International experiences will be emphasized.
Brazilian Culture through the Eyes of an Anthropologist
Did you know Richmond was listed in Newsweek as the "Hottest School for International Studies"? Last year over 70 percent of the graduating class went abroad at least once during their time at Richmond. Globally oriented classes offered across disciplines at Richmond fuel our students' interest in other parts of the world. With a focus on the northeast corner of Brazil, the professor will use music and film to illustrate how anthropology helps illuminate other cultures and societies.
