Gil Villanueva

Gil J. Villanueva serves as the University of Richmond’s Associate Vice President and Dean of Admission. He is also Past President and current Past Chair of the Board of Directors for The Common Application.

Mr. Villanueva has 25 years of experience in selective college admissions, working at Bucknell University, Harvey Mudd College, and Brandeis University before coming to Richmond in 2009.

He travels for Richmond to Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Richmond, and San Francisco.

Hometown: Manila, Philippines and South Pasadena, California

Education: B.A. in Psychology from Pitzer College, M.S. in Education from Bucknell University

How you started in admission: Like so many admission professionals, I was a tour guide in college. I am still adept at walking backwards. The opportunity to serve the University was the primary reason I came to Richmond. It is a college that truly lives up to its mission in preparing men and women for leadership roles in society.

A question you get all the time: "How's the food?" In a word: Yummy!

Hobbies/interests: Arts, athletics, automobiles, dogs, parenting, and travel
