Life at a U.S. University

Life at a U.S. liberal arts university revolves around academics and campus life. Nearly all students choose to live on campus all four years, taking advantage of on-campus housing, dining, and recreation facilities.

The Office of International Education helps international students acclimate to both the university and city and can offer tips on immigration, travel, health insurance, and more. International students should not worry about having a car on campus. Transportation between the airport, the university, and the City of Richmond is easy to arrange. A variety of Richmond destinations are accessible using the UR Downtown Shuttle, which operates Monday through Friday.

The University of Richmond is located on a safe, suburban campus just six miles (ten kilometers) from the City of Richmond's downtown. When you're not in class, the city's world-class museums, shopping, local restaurants, and festivals beckon. The James River has made Richmond a favorite with outdoor adventure enthusiasts and, as Virginia's state capital, Richmond gives international students an up-close look at U.S. politics. When you're ready to get out of town, both Washington, D.C. and New York City make great weekend getaways and are easily accessible by car, train, or plane.
